Tips to Help Your Child Transition from a Potty Seat to a Full-Size Toilet when Potty Training
Written by Suzanne Riffel
So, you've reached a milestone - your child is potty trained! Now you might be finding yourself with a dilemma - although your child is reliably using his child's potty, he is not yet using the 'big toilet.' How do you best make that transition?
First of all, is your child afraid of the big potty? If not, you can just pick a day in a month or two where you tell him that he is "graduating" again - this time to a big potty! Start talking about the transition now - "Soon you won't be needing this little potty anymore. Little potties aren't for big boys like you! - Tell Mommy when you want to start using the big potty!" Make a big deal of getting rid of his little potty - you can have the "potty fairy" come take it to "the babies" and leave a present in its place........or you can let him bring it to a baby himself. This works well if you know a friend or family member with a little one.
Another method is to switch to a 'little' potty that disassembles so that the "top" of the potty becomes a toilet seat insert. An example of one of these products is the Fisher-Price Potty shown below.
